How to convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG

Updated 3 min read

Quick answer

Drop the HEIC photos on a HEIC to JPG converter and download JPGs that open on any computer or website. To stop it happening again, change one setting on the iPhone.

HEIC to JPGFree, no sign-up, and your files never leave your device.

Open the tool

Step by step

  1. Open HEIC to JPG and add your photos. You can add up to 50 at once.
  2. Select Convert to JPG. Each photo is turned into a JPG on your own device.
  3. Download them one by one, or all together as a ZIP.

Tips

  • To make the iPhone take JPGs from now on: Settings, then Camera, then Formats, then choose Most Compatible.
  • To get JPGs when copying photos to a computer: Settings, then Photos, then under Transfer to Mac or PC choose Automatic.
  • HEIC files are about half the size of JPGs at the same quality, so keeping HEIC on the phone and converting only when needed saves space.

If something goes wrong

The photo is sideways after converting.

The photo’s rotation setting is applied when converting, so this is rare. Fix any that slip through with Rotate image.

It’s slow the first time.

Outside Safari, a HEIC decoder loads the first time you add one. After that, it’s quick.
