How to fill in a PDF form on your computer
Quick answer
If the PDF has fillable boxes, open it in a form filler, type your answers and save. If it has no boxes, type on top of the page instead with an add-text tool.
Fill PDF formsFree, no sign-up, and your files never leave your device.
Open the toolStep by step
- Open Fill PDF forms and add the form.
- Fill in the boxes shown, page by page. Required fields are marked.
- Tick “Lock the answers” if nobody should be able to change them later.
- Select Download PDF and send or upload the filled form.
Tips
- Not sure whether a PDF is fillable? Add it: if there are no fields, you are told straight away.
- For a form with no boxes, use Add text to PDF and click where each answer goes.
- Forms that add up totals by themselves rely on scripts. Those are removed for safety, so check any totals yourself.
If something goes wrong
It says the form is an XFA form.
XFA is an older Adobe-only kind of form. Ask the sender for a standard PDF, or open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Some characters are refused.
The standard form font covers Western European letters. Write other scripts with Add text, or ask the sender for an alternative.
